Publication: Innovations in the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission Mini'Grid Regulations, 2023
On December 29, 2023, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (the “Commission”) released the Mini-Grid Regulations, 2023 (the “New Regulation”). The New Regulation repealed the Mini-Grid Regulations, 2016 and introduced certain changes to the operation of mini-grids in Nigeria. These changes seek to enhance the framework and administration of mini-grids and encourage more participants in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (“NESI”).
In this article, we highlight noteworthy innovations in the New Regulation and the possible impacts these changes would have on the NESI.
