Publication: The New Player in Town: Pension Fund Administrators as Institutional Investors in Nigeria Securities Lending Market

Securities lending was formally introduced to the Nigerian capital market in 2015 and by 2020, 7.38 million units of securities, worth 97.18 million were lent. Pension Fund Administrators, who were previously restricted from using pension assets for securities lending, have recently been introduced as institutional investors, allowing them to use pension assets for securities lending by virtue of the Business Facilitation Act of 2022.

In this article, Ayodele Ashiata Kadiri, Chioma Egboh-Nwachukwu, and Ayomipo Adeniyi investigate this new introduction, the legal framework controlling securities lending in Nigeria, the prospects of securities lending by PFAs, and the tax consequences of using pension assets for securities lending in this article.
