Kuburat Abubakar is a Senior Associate in the Firm’s Corporate, Mergers and Acquisitions, Foreign Investment, Real Estate and Construction Practice Units. As a key member of the Firm’s Corporate and M&A practice units, she provides legal advisory services to various clients (domestic and foreign), in several sectors of the economy. This includes advising on mergers, acquisitions corporate restructuring, foreign investments, compliance, corporate governance, divestments, privatizations, etc.

She also advises on the following sectors in the Real Estate and Construction units: transport (aviation, shipping and maritime, road, railway), hospitality, health care, industrial and mining sectors.

Corporate and M&A

  • advising the controlling shareholders of Titan Trust Bank Limited on the proposed acquisition of, and merger with Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, one of Nigeria’s oldest commercial bank in Nigeria;
  • advised AIICO Insurance Plc and other shareholders on the divestment of AIICO Pension Managers Limited to FCMB Pensions Limited;
  • advised Radix Pension on the subscription of a majority stake to a Nigeria Investment Company.
  • advising a leading South African private equity fund on its proposed mezzanine investment in a leading pharmaceutical company in Nigeria.
  • advising mpharma on its acquisition of majority shares in HealthPlus Limited.
  • advising Massmart Holdings, a South African Company on its attempted divestment of its Nigerian subsidiaries (Game Stores Nigeria Limited);

Construction and Real Estate

  • advising the Lagos State Government on the construction of the Lagos Metro Rail Transit – the Redline; (N93bn, the largest rail line in Nigeria).
  • advising African Plus Partners on its concession of the Lagos-Otta and Benin Asaba toll Roads under the Federal government HDMI Initiative.
  • advising IASO Medipark Limited on the concession and the development of the Lagos State Medipark Hospital.
  • advised a leading construction company on the construction of a dual carriageway in Calabar, Cross Rivers State.
  • advising a leading FMCG company on the development of a 31-storey twin-tower building with 42 luxury apartments on Bourdillon Road in Ikoyi, Lagos.
  • advised an NNPC subsidiary on its establishment of a 5-star luxury hotel in Abuja with an international hotel operator.
  • advised Sifax group of companies on the bid for the concession of the Lagos International Airport.
